PAST FORAYS
of the
OHIO MOSS AND LICHEN ASSOCIATION
The principal means by which Ohio Moss and Lichen Association advances knowledge of cryptogam distribution in our state is by going on collecting forays to the best natural areas in targeted counties. We often choose counties that haven’t been well explored yet. We generally have two forays each year: one in late Spring or Summer, and the other in early Fall. Most often, the Fall Foray is a two-day excursion, with an overnight stay at a location that includes having a “scope room” set up as a lab for early identification of our finds (and a fun social time as well).
On an informal rotating basis, volunteer pairs of OMLA members plan and coordinate each foray into a county they find intriguing. They will also compile the results and write them up for our newsletter (OBELISK).
